Two delinquent twin brothers, one trying to make amends, embark on a dangerous heist journey
Faced with legal issues, shootouts and family drama, they must reconcile their differences before their mission leads to self-destruction. (March 22, 1935 – March 19, 2024). For some reason, genuinely funny comedies have become an increasingly rare cinematic commodity in recent years, so it’s a real treat when one comes along that satisfactorily tickles the funny bone.
Leading the charge are twin brothers Jeddy (Peter Dinklage), a career criminal recently released from prison, and Moke (Josh Brolin), a gifted but long-reluctant thief now trying to come clean
Such is the case with director Max Barbakov’s third feature effort, the wild and wacky tale of a dysfunctional crime family seeking to recover the hidden loot from a heist committed by the family matriarch (Jen Landon) 30 years ago. The goal is to find a stash of emeralds stolen by their long-absent mother (Glenn Close), who originally stole the goods but has since been on the run — and who now suddenly appears to claim the gems for herself. Thus, the unlikely trio begin their quest to retrieve the jewels, an odyssey that finds them aggressively pursued by Constable Farfull (Brendan Fraser), a rogue prison guard who arranges for Jaydee’s early release through his father, a corrupt judge (M.
Walsh in his penultimate screen performance), in exchange for a significant reduction in stock
Emmett ). ). And along the way, the parties in this wayward caper scramble through a set of inventively inspired comic challenges that include JD’s (Marissa Tomei) spacey new friend, Moke’s (Taylor Page) pregnant wife.
Randy Gorilla, by the way
It is also a cautionary tale in the idea that there is no honor among thieves, even when they are members of one’s own family. While some of the film’s segments are obviously a bit over-dubbed and over-acted (especially by Frazier), much of this mayhem is played quite well, reminiscent of one of the Coen brothers; films (though admittedly not as polished). If nothing else, though, it represents a huge step up from the director’s last outing, the positively terrifying Palm Springs; (2020) (my worst movie of the year), as well as a vast improvement over many of Amazon Prime’s recent disappointing offerings, a feat largely made possible by the performances of its stellar cast (especially the three leads ).

"Brothers" it’s by no means epic filmmaking, but it’s a great way to have a hearty laugh at home on a Friday night with a big bowl of popcorn, and that in itself is pretty satisfying. The final season of "What we do in the shadows" is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
