Chronology

A family is invited to spend the weekend in a lonely house in the countryside, but as the weekend progresses, they realize that there is a dark side to the family that invited them. James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis share the elements of their characters they found most interesting and praised each other when discussing their different approaches to the craft. The story is inspired by the experiences of Christian Tafdrup, the director of the original Danish film Speak No Evil (2022), who became friends while on vacation with a Dutch couple. Although the Dutch were somewhat socially awkward, the two couples got along very well, and upon returning home, Tafdrup received an invitation from a Dutch family to come to Holland. He thought about it briefly, but decided that it would feel weird staying with people he didn’t really know; his story for the film came about when he unleashed his darkest imaginings of what might happen if he accepted (claiming that the original Dutch couple never gave off bad vibes).

settle in and relax, but all is not all as it seems from a new Blumhouse feature. While most aspects of the 2022 foreign film of the same name get it right, Speak No Evil builds a good level of tension while building to a violent climax, which is a good aspect of the film’s forte as a psychological horror. American Family is very likable and very realistic when it comes to some of the more tense threat scenes, you generally really sympathize with them and you can also see some of the point of view of the scene for most of the run. At first they think it’s a new way to bond with their new home, but as the film progresses the perspectives slowly change and it makes you wonder if they’ll ever recover from the horrible things they’ve witnessed so far, which adds a level of . clarity and horror to the dark tone of the film and that is very good.

It is very identical

Acting, very top notch for a Blumhouse movie these days, as James McAvoy is actually pretty scary, but funny at the same time. He reminds me of Jack Torrance from The Shining, a very manic and twisted character who has his comedic elements scattered throughout, I thought that was quite an interesting thing to notice, but I think Paddy was a bit different, if only because of his charm. an aspect rather than a downward spiral of Jack’s characters. Overall, while a pretty solid entry into the Blumhouse library, this thriller’s fatal flaw is its lack of homage to the original film, which should truly be respected. , but this entry seems to completely avoid some aspects that a remake shouldn’t unless it has a good reason to.
