It was kind of cute at first, really nice
Chronology
It follows two peers who struggle in different ways with the same issues surrounding their sexuality. As someone from the LGBTQ+ community, this was a really frustrating watch. Two grown men who are maybe just starting to discover new things about themselves (yeah!). There’s nothing wrong with that, and I’m all for it. Then, as the movie goes on, it becomes pretty clear that the focus isn’t at all on self-discovery and growth as a person.
Live and go and talk to someone who knows!
Maybe the movie is trying to feel that way, but it doesn’t. They end up going around in circles, discussing identity and emotions with people who either don’t accept how they feel or are focused on the wrong thing. I just wanted to yell at them to stop listening to their idiot partners and the other people in them. Now we had people with 0 experience as queer (or different) also trying to trust people with 0 experience. Just making up baseless theories and ending with annoying conclusions.
Not at all
Never really understanding and leaving the MC feeling bad about it. If that was the point of the movie, just to be frustrating and toxic, you did amazingly well. The dialogue is on point and pretty funny. But do I feel like they did a good job of portraying queer people and does it show a healthy way to deal with your emotions? no.
Please talk to professionals
If they had at least added something to show how bad it is going in the long run and how unhealthy it is, I would have liked it. But now it’s stuck in a gray area where nothing is resolved properly and the characters find it manageable so they ignore it and move on. The movie makes it seem like that’s a good conclusion. I don’t think it’s right! It’s toxic.
With love from someone queer <3
And please don’t be afraid to explore your sexual or gender identity just because the people around you don’t get it.
